As the omicron variant is quickly spreading and many are seeking COVID-19 tests again, Alabama hospitals are reminding people to stay away from emergency rooms unless there is a serious medical issue.
be able to get the beds they need because of unvaccinated covid patients coming in to these hospitals. there s also the issue of children being in alabama hospitals at a higher level than been seen throughout the entire pandemic. right here we re at a uab hospital in birmingham. they are seeing a real serious shortage of staff as well. when they saw a surge back in january and february, they were able to handle that because they had the resources to do so. now they are saying plans may not be able to happen here pause they don t have the resources to make that happen. i spoke to the head of the icu here yesterday and he said it s not about politics, it s about helping your fellow man. here is what he had to say. i think at the end of the day what we have the capacity of our country to think about one another. we have seen that through our history. we have opportunities to come together.
