Image Credit: Virendra Saklani/Gulf News 12:10AM January 1, 2021 It was a celebration of togetherness, community remembrance and a powerful tribute to the UAE frontliners as Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, lit up Dubai skies with an amazing fireworks and laser show to usher in the New Year. Before the main event, flags of various countries were displayed on Burj Khalifa. Japan and South Korea came first as they celebrated their New Year at 7pm (UAE time), followed by China, the Philippines and Singapore at 8pm; while Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia came at 9pm. India’s flag was displayed at 10.30pm as well as Sri Lanka’s flag. Pakistan colours, and the flags of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were showcased at 11pm.

Free buses from Dubai s Burj Khalifa to Metro stations on New Year s Eve

File picture In an update ahead of Thursday s celebrations, the Roads and Transport Authority says 200 free buses will be available to transport people from Dubai s Burj Khalifa to Metro stations on New Year s Eve. The Authority says the buses will also service taxi ranks at parking lots in the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Musallah Al Eid hall in Al Mankhool and Al Wasl Club. Special screens will alert drivers when roads are closed and monitor traffic lights on Financial Centre Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard to ensure a smooth flow during peak times. Pedestrian bridges on the Water Canal, elevators and the pedestrian pier on the Sheikh Zayed Bridge at the Canal will be closed.

NYE Burj Khalifa: Dubai announces free bus service Web Report/Dubai (Wam file) Free bus service will transport visitors from the event venue to metro stations To ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain safety during New Year s Eve celebrations, Roads and Transport Authority Dubai will implement an organised plan around the Burj Khalifa area, including the operation of 200 buses free of charge. The free bus service will transport visitors from the event venue to metro stations in addition to taxi parking spots in each of the parking lots of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Musallah Al Eid hall in Al Mankhool and Al Wasl Club, so that people can reach them via the free bus service - after the end of the celebrations.
