The 1964 cross-country season turned out to be my most successful one as part of our successful Ohio University team, and I feel that OU's decision to induct the team into its Kermit Blosser Ohio Athletics Hall of Fame last fall was long overdue, especially for Darnell Mitchell, one of the best half-mile (800-meter) runners in the country at the time. And I suppose Smitty (Lawr3nce Smith), who trained harder than anyone and placed 21st in the Boston Marathon that year, is smiling at us from the spirit world, writes guest columnist Alex Jamieson, a member of that team who still occasionally runs with his granddaughter.
