KHARTOUM (SD) – Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has today arrived in Sudan for a new mediation effort regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Information Minister Yemane Meskel said in a tweet the Red Sea nation
president was received by ‘the President of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Gen.
Abdel Fatah al Burhan, Foreign Minister al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, & other senior
Sudanese officials and dignitaries.’
In a statement, Sudan foreign ministry said Afwerki will discuss with
the head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, ways to support and
enhance bilateral cooperation and develop relations between the two countries,
in addition to issues of common interest.

The Sudanese Public Prosecution announced it was taking legal action against a new group of former officials of ousted President Omar al-Bashir s regime on charges of murder, corruption and torture.
The Public Prosecution referred five cases of murder during protests in Atbara city to the judiciary, which will set date for the trials.
It also completed its investigations into an incident where a detainee was tortured to death by the Rapid Support Forces in December. The report will be referred to the judiciary within days.
