hi, everyone. thanks for joining me. i m omar jimenez sitting in for fredicka whitfield. we begin with heavy shelling and fighting in gaza putting emergency centers in emergency situations. the red crescent society said gaza s second largest hospital is out of service due to the dep please of supplies. israel defense forces say they re enabling safe passage from gaza s hospitals, but medics say it s too dangerous to leave because of intense fighting. with civilian casualties mounting, today israel prime minister benjamin netanyahu told cnn the lives lost fall squeri on the shoulders of hamas. i think any civilian slos is a tragedy and the blame should be placed squarely on hamas. it prevents them from leaving the zone. the other day, to prevent palestinians from leaving harm s way, it puts rockets inside schools, hospitals. it has tunnels below children s beds. this is what we re dealing with. so obviously we can t give them i m munlt. today for the first time since thurs
thanks forjoining us. these reports coming out of gaza paint a grim picture of the humanitarian situation there. what more can you tell us about how hospitals in gaza are coping? well, with great difficulty. they are all pretty much surrounded in gaza city, because the israelis argue these are places where hamas fighters have based themselves, and consequently there have been intense battles going on around us hospitals. the israelis say they are not targeting hospitals per se, and they are trying to get the civilian populations that are clustered around them to try to leave, and also starting to think about evacuating the hospitals themselves, so that israel can concentrate on dealing with hamas. there is a small development on that front this evening. the israelis said tomorrow they are going to evacuate babies from the shifa hospital to a safer location. we do not know the details, we have not had confirmation from the palestinian side, it is very difficult to get through
israeli air strikes have continued across southern gaza today. our correspondent on the ground says there ve been eight air strikes in and around khan younis today, with 23 people killed and around 200 injured. israeli forces have repeatedly told palestinians to leave northern gaza for the south. the bbc s rushdi abualouf witnessed one of the air strikes while he was buying supplies for his children in the village of bani suhaila. four bombs fell around him in quick succession. he took these pictures, and says a block of about ten houses had been destroyed. rushdie told us he saw four dead bodies, and more than 100 injured people in that particular incident. it comes as the us national security adviser, jake sullivan, said washington does not want to see firefights in hospitals in gaza. conditions in the two biggest are said to be desperate with patients, staff and the displaced all trapped. one hospital, the al-quds medical centre, says it has now ran out of fuel and stopp
