they have executive authority. it s only really it s a political opposition. it s not a violation of the second amendment, why do they keep talking about bypassing congress. they re going to simply say, we have the executive authority, which i think they clearly do. al, how much do you think public opinion has shifted on this issue? i think it s shifted a little bit, but, you know, the sense among most people in politics is, it may be 75/25, but that 75, it s issue number 16 or 17 or 19, and for the 25, it s issue number one or two. and that contrast to the democrats that were defeated in the 90s on the brady bill, an assault weapons ban, look at all the republicans who resisted, after sandy hook, resisted, really mild, mild measures. joe manchin and pat toomey, not a single one were affected in the next election. so bernie sanders made a speech saying dodd/frank is a
low-dollar donors keep giving, even if he doesn t do well in the first two state? they give a lot more if he wins. that s for sure. but i don t think they go away and i think caucus states and some other states like massachusetts, i think he can do quite well and i think he s going to give her heartburn for at least a couple of months after those early primaries. al hunt and margaret toud, thanks to you both. up next, msnbc s chris matthews joins us fresh off his interview with hillary clinton in iowa today, when we come back. you both have a perfect driving record.
joke, and hillary clinton has said, we ve got to go a lot further than dodd/frank. the building you cover in the white house, how do people there including the president of the united states feel about the fact that his two most likely democratic potential successors are trashing, effectively, one of the signature achievements of his first term. not what they want, as the president looks to build his legacy. but i think they re not terribly surprised. president obama having gone through this himself a couple of times knows that this is the time when you are running and you have to carve out your position. and i would note, like with some irony, that on the same day that this is happening, bernie sanders wants to not be talking about guns, because from a primary election perspective, his position on guns is not as good as hillary clinton s, and she s been hammering him on it. and he wants to make the conversation about wall street, and when he does, she wants to act like she s tough o
has a chance to be the candidate and the reality is and i give analogy to you ve been watching television, watching law & order for so many years and you say maybe one more season isn t that bad. that s what s happening with hillary. al hunt, you ve been out there covering campaigns for now nearly 90 years. have you ever is there any explanation for anything that we just saw in the last five or six minutes for anything that we have seen and heard from top tier republicans over the last four or five months. any rationale explanation that you have for this? not even the gettysburg address as well as i remember that. we ve never seen anything like this. we all think that it s not going to last. we thought that for six months, haven t we? it seems to be lasting. i think it s interesting.
from deportation. at this point the administration may be able to appeal the decision to the supreme court for consideration. something that might happen near the very end of his second term. it may. al hunt, a significant ruling. this one looks like it s going all of the way to the supreme court. the court will probably rule on this next year. they re going to seek an expedited process here and that will be every year it seems we have some huge decision that probably will come down to about the third week of june and this will be the one for next year. and there s an awful lot at stake here. if that appellate court ruling stands, it negates what he s tried to do. it would undercut the great legacy he was trying to achieve.
