Unexpected monsoon shower causes agony to citizens with power cuts, inundated roads

An unexpected spell of monsoon rain on early Monday morning in Karachi surprised both the citizens as well as weather pundits as most of the city areas received light to moderate showers, resulting in inundation of low-lying areas, accumulation of water on major roads and power cuts in many areas of the city.
The rain started around 7am in most of the areas on Monday morning. Around three to four millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded in the first spell except for Gulshan-e-Hadeed where 17 mm was recorded. The intermittent rain continued till noon, during which different areas received 20 to 35mm of rainfall, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials said.
Drug addict son kills father over refusal to provide money

A middle-aged man was shot dead on Sunday in the Al-Falah Society area of the city allegedly by his drug addict son upon refusal to pay money for drugs.
The incident took place at a house located in Millat Town within the limits of the Al-Falah police station. Upon receiving the information, police and rescuers reached the property and transported the casualty to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities where the deceased person was identified as 55-year-old Nasir Khan.
The man was asleep when his young son, Nadir, shot and killed him, police said, adding that the family told them that Nadir was a drug addict. According to the family, the son was earlier addicted to hashish but he had started taking crystal meth (ice) for the past six months. Korangi administration orders lockdown in three subdivisions

The administration of the Korangi district ordered micro smart lockdowns in three subdivisions late on Tuesday night. Interestingly, no such lockdown has been ordered in District East, which has been reporting the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Sindh on an almost regular basis.
A notification issued by the office of District Korangi Deputy Commissioner Irfan Salam Mirwani said that micro smart lockdowns have been ordered in the Korangi, Shah Faisal Town and Model Colony (Malir) subdivisions on the recommendation of the district health officer.
The lockdowns have been ordered in emerging hotspot areas with respect to the spread of the coronavirus and in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3(3) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014. The restrictions will stay in effect until June 1.
‘Child rapist’ arrested
Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly abducting and raping minor girls.
According to police, the suspect, Ovais Akbar, was arrested with the help CCTV footage of the kidnappings of two minor girls. A case has been registered.
Man robbed
Two robbers looted cash and a mobile phone from a citizen in Al-Falah Society.
Police obtained the CCTV footage of the incident, showing two suspects looting Rs300,000 and a mobile phone from the citizen.
The CCTV footage further showed that the one of the robbers attempted to open fire on the citizen, but fortunately, the gun could not fire due to some fault.
Karachi: Smart lockdown imposed in six UCs of Korangi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – In the wake of increasing coronavirus cases, smart lockdown has on Saturday been imposed for fifteen days in six union councils (UCs) of Karachi’s Korangi District.
Korangi DC issued the orders of smart lockdown on recommendations of district health officer. Nasir Colony, Bhittai Colony, Silver Town, Shah Faisal Colony, Drug Colony, Rafah-e-Aam Society and Al-Falah Society are among the affected areas.
Unnecessary locomotion in these areas has been banned while wearing facemask has been made mandatory. Furthermore, the individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined at home.
