Standing outside the memorial of air crash victims, former Additional Deputy Commissioner S.A. Prabhakar Sharma cannot forget the days spent following the air crash that occurred here 11 years ago in which 158 persons died.
“Those images still come before me. Cannot forget the days following the tragedy,” said Mr. Sharma, who held the charge of Deputy Commissioner as V. Ponnuraj (presently Managing Director of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited) had gone abroad for training.

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has formed mobile swab collection teams in the jurisdiction of each of 10 urban primary health centres in the city, according to Mayor Premananda Shetty.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, the Mayor said that the teams will collect the swabs of the primary contacts of COVID-19 patients and of those with COVID-19 symptoms from their doorstep.
People can reach out to these teams by contacting the primary health centres of their area. In addition, if the services of those teams are required people can also call the toll free number of the corporation over 155313.

As directed by the State government, the Mangaluru City Corporation has formed ward-level COVID-19 task force committees in 60 wards of the city for monitoring COVID-19 patients and their primary contacts. The committee will be facilitating testing, arranging for ration for patients and also taking micro containment steps.
Corporation Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said that the ward-level task force committees will comprise local councillors, nodal officers from the corporation, multi-purpose workers and 10 volunteers each. They will be attached to the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) that covers about seven wards. Each one of the 10 UPHCs will have a team of officers from the corporation who will coordinate with the ward-level committees.
India extends suspension of international flights till May end

New Delhi, Apr 30: The suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger flights to or from India has been extended till May 31. The international scheduled flights under select routes, however, will remain operational on a case-to-case basis, the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA) said on Friday. In partial modification of circular date 26-6-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of circular issued on the subject cited above regarding scheduled international commercial passenger services to or from India till 2359 hrs IST of 31st May 2021. The restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA, the DGCA circular stated.
