A rape case has been filed against Jakaria Noman Fayezi, publicity secretary of the recently dissolved Hefajat-e-Islam central committee, in Chattogram, said police.
A woman filed the case with Hathazari Police Station early yesterday, confirmed Abdullah Al Masum, additional superintendent of Chattogram police.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff became acquainted with Fayezi through social media in September of 2019.
In November, the same year, she came to Hathazari upazila where Fayezi rented a house for her to stay, the police officer said, quoting the case statement. Fayezi raped the victim many times over the next year, the statement added.

Police have arrested five more people in the last 24 hours from different parts of Brahmanbaria in connection with the violence and arson carried out by Hefajat-e-Islam activists last month.
With the latest arrests, the total number of arrestees over the mayhem now stands at 394.
They were arrested during raids in different areas from yesterday morning to this morning, according to a media statement issued by the Special Branch of Brahmanbaria police.
Md Roish Uddin, additional superintendent of police in Brahmanbaria, told The Daily Star that 56 cases have been lodged so far over the incident. Of these, 49 were filed with Sadar Police Station, four with Ashuganj Police Station, two with Sarail Police Station, and one with Akhaura Railway Police Station.

Two imams have been arrested for allegedly spreading rumour and taking part in Hefajat-incited violence in Brahmanbaria, according to a press release sent from the Special Branch of the district police.
Delwar Hossain Belali, a member of Hefajat district committee and Imam of Bangabandhu High School Jame Mosque; and Iqbal Hossain, Imam of Harinadi Jame Mosque, were arrested at Ghatura village early today.
According to the police, the duo spread rumour over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s recent visit to Bangladesh. They joined in the violence and also provoked Hefajat men to carry on subversive activities by giving announcements from the respective mosques during the mayhem.

Three Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were arrested in connection the cases filed over violence in 2013 and March this year, and four more, including three top Hefajat leaders, were placed on remand yesterday.
The Detective Branch of police yesterday arrested Hefajat s Assistant Secretary General and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Nayeb-e-Amir Khurshid Alam Kasemi from his house in the capital s Mohammadpur yesterday afternoon, said Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Khelafat Majlish s Joint Secretary Mufti Sharafat Hossain was held from Mirpur area around 5:00pm. He was involved in the Hefajat s violence in 2013 and March this year, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DB-Gulshan) of DMP, told The Daily Star.
