NPCB conducts awareness programme on single-use plastic-free campaign

Dimapur, Nov. 5 (EMN): The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) conducted an awareness programme as part of the single-use plastic-free campaign at Thahekhu village in Dimapur on Saturday. The programme was attended by village council members and the business establishment community. Akangmeren Imchen, Scientist B, NPCB, presented about the ill effects of plastics and how it impacts the environment. He stressed on the improper management of various wastes, especially plastic wastes which are carelessly dumped into the streams, nullahs and river bodies. He urged the participants to refrain from using banned plastic items and be aware of their actions in conserving the environment, an update stated. Urban local bodies asked to adopt zero waste

Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): Principal Secretary of Urban Development department and Municipal Affairs, I Himato Zhimomi, has urged upon the urban local bodies (ULB) to work towards zero waste policy, which according to him, is a possible dream ‘if one is determine to have healthier and cleaner environment despite the complications one faces.’ Zhimomi stated this during a workshop on “Transition to alternative use of single-use plastic in line with implementation of Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021” for all the urban local bodies in Nagaland, organised by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) at the Convention Centre in Kohima on July 22. He spoke on the menace of solid waste, which is increasing everyday thereby affecting the environment and causing climate change with the raising temperature, taking the example of Kohima, an update from NPCB stated.
