On Monday evening, the Ajax Women and their national title were exuberantly celebrated in a ceremony and party organized by the brewery Brouwerij de Eeuwige Jeugd. The footballers and hundreds of fans celebrated with thumping music and a lot of beer. The Ajax club management was emphatically not invited, AD reports.
Football fans are brimming with excitement for the final match day of the Eredivisie on Sunday. PSV Eindhoven, Ajax Amsterdam, and AZ Alkmaar will be fighting for the three spots in the European competitions. The stakes are especially high for Ajax: the Amsterdam club has the possibility to finish in second, third, or even fourth place. PSV and AZ will face each other on Sunday, adding even more drama to this decisive last round.
There will be no public tribute to the Ajax Women’s team in Amsterdam, the municipality reported. The celebration was planned on Leidseplein this coming Monday. But Ajax’s management “has asked the municipality to refrain,” Amsterdam said.
The Ajax Women visited mayor Femke Halsema’s official residence to celebrate their Dutch championship victory two weeks ago along with sports alderman Sofyan Mbarki. They celebrated with speeches, flowers, champagne, and the announcement of a public ceremony to come, AT5 reports.
