Kazan Project 885M Yasen-M nuclear submarine
China and Russia, whom the United States has termed as its big power competitors, launched nuclear powered strategic submarines during April-May 2020, perhaps the biggest assertion of naval strike capability with global reach.
On May 7, the Russian Navy commissioned Kazan fourth-generation Yasen-M submarine, its most potent nuclear-powered vessel till date. A few days earlier, another country fighting for the top spot in terms of military power, China, commissioned Changzheng 18 Type 09IV nuclear-powered submarine.

The Project 885M (Yasen M-class) submarines are built by St. Petersburg-based Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau. Based on the Akula-class and Alfa-class, it is projected to replace Russia s Soviet-era nuclear attack submarines.

Aircraft, missiles & munitions dominate U.S. arms sales to the Middle East which ballooned during 2015-20, coinciding with the war in Yemen.
Sales of military aircraft overwhelmingly dominate U.S. arms sales to Middle Eastern countries followed by missiles and munitions for the 2015-2020 periods.
U.S. military aircraft sales, comprising those by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) and direct commercial sales by arms vendors amounted to $58.223 billion during the period under study while that of missiles and munitions amounted to $25 billion.

These sanctions prohibit SSB from accessing loans from either U.S or international financial institutes, restricts exports licenses for Turkish military products built with U.S components, and initiates visa and asset freezes on SSB s executives.
