The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is currently posting a historically high sign-up bonus, with the chance to earn up to 100,000 miles by making $20,000 in purchases within the first 12 months of account opening. This is a rare and limited-time offer that might have many folks who haven’t previously carried the Capital One Venture thinking of applying. While it would be great to see Capital One transition more of its partners to a 1:1 conversion rate, this starting stable is already significant. It begins to put Capital One miles on a more equal footing with other types of transferable points, such as American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards, which transfer to their own partners at 1:1 rates in most cases.
Hopefully, Capital One will add more 1:1 partners to the list, including some that U.S.-based travelers, in particular, would find useful, such as JetBlue True Blue and Air Canada Aeroplan. That said, there are still interesting ways to redeem miles from some of these other partners for high-value rewards.
Singapore Airlines’ status without flying promo
With Singapore’s borders more or less closed, Singapore Airlines has launched a creative promotion that makes it easy to earn status without flying. Between April 7, 2021, and February 28, 2022, you can accrue activity towards Singapore KrisFlyer status for shopping, converting rewards points, and more.
Let’s assume you currently have no status with Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program. In that case you’re eligible to upgrade your status to either KrisFlyer Elite Silver or KrisFlyer Elite Gold.
For context:
KrisFlyer Elite Gold status requires 50,000 elite qualifying miles per year
Here’s a rundown of the different ways you can use this promotion to earn status:
