was a particular entry into the notam system. they simply unplugged it and plugged it back in, for lack of a better metaphor, and that didn t work. i want you to listen to transportation secretary pete buttigieg. he s been very critical of the airlines meltdowns over the summer and this winter. this was not an airline problem. this was on the faa. there s been so much criticism about the faa s own systems, whether or not they re outdated or underfunded. pete buttigieg has directed an internal review here. he says the agency owns its problem. listen. these kinds of disruptions should not happen. my primary interest now that we ve gotten through the immediate disruptions of the morning is understanding exactly how this was possible and exactly what steps are needed to make sure it doesn t happen again. reporter: a lot of questions facing the faa now, especially given that criticism based on the fact that so many folks say
can get a lot of money back from the airlineses if they sit on the tarmac for three our six hours. this is something that was a problem with the faa. this doesn t seem to be an airline problem this is a problem system wide. but you re right, this was modelled after generous laws in europe. if you, at the fault of an airline are sitting on the tarmac or the airport for a couple hours in europe, you get big money back and that was something that travel advocates, consumer advocates in the u.s. wanted to model because so many people were spending so much time, felt like they were at the whim of airlines. this not the airlines fault. doesn t appear to be. the breaking news here on cnn, the faa has a system outage, holding all departing flights until at least 9:00 a.m.

delta, northwest, united, continent no, alaska, virgin it was one after another, the airlines got bigger and worse. thank goodness the safety record is really good but if you look at what happens is the pandemic it s hard to say that the airlines had all this time with airplanes on the ground and somehow they came out of this worse the customer services worse the reliability of longtime travel is worse and were looking at 40% price increases. for the last 50 years they say consolidation of the big airlines with each other is going to make consumers better off that has not happened we have an airline problem in this country right now and i think it s time for a wake-up call because a lot of americans are frustrated at these airports. you spend two or $300 more than you would have a few months ago and then you get to the airport and they say thank you your flight is canceled. jon: and here are your pretzels.
