An Airdrie man has been arrested and is facing charges following an assault on an Indigenous couple last week.
Telly Bear and his wife Judy were heading home from Saskatchewan to Calgary when they stopped at a 7-Eleven in Airdrie to use the washroom. Bear alleges a Caucasian man began yelling racial slurs at the couple from his vehicle before following and rear-ending them.

After exiting his vehicle to confront the man, Bear said he and his wife were beaten with a police baton. The two were treated by EMS at the scene but ended up driving themselves to hospital where Judy was treated for whiplash and Telly for a fractured arm.

An Indigenous couple assaulted in Airdrie in early December staged a walk this weekend to raise awareness of racism in Alberta.
Telly Bear on Saturday led a group of about a dozen people on the nine-kilometre walk from CrossIron Mills shopping centre just north of Calgary city limits to the Airdrie 7-Eleven where he and his wife had been assaulted a week earlier on Yankee Valley Boulevard just east of Highway 2. Other supporters followed in vehicles.
