keep its strength once it got to land. i don t think anybody thought it would stay as strong of a category as it is. it is relendless. it not given up. we are really catching the devil here and seems like it will be this way through the night. your mission is to try to help people but you have a powerful storm that is moving slowly over louisiana and it s night fall there. so what are you able to actually do right now? well, you know, we have guys coming in from all over the country and right now we re trying to cut our way into houma and go south. there is a lot of people trapped down there. the problem is a lot of power lines across the road and stuff. we have airboats going in. one of the main needs we have right now is high octane fuel for airboats. the airboats take 90 plus octane fuel so we re having trouble finding that now. it s dire. people are in homes with kids,
i don t know what to do from here. just trying to. just trying to let it all sink in and try to figure things out. john: fox with a multimedia journalist robert ray is live in lafitte louisiana where more than 150 people are in imminent danger after heavy rain and storm surge breached a level there. we witnessed you getting blown away by hurricane ida yesterday. hopefully things are little they certainly are. sunny skies, but don t let that fill you. by me as a flurry of activity here outside of lafitte louisiana. it is a fishing village and the sheriff briefed us earlier, and there s a few hundred people that decided to stay. so it s happening is that our military helicopters below and airboats heading out to try and check on people going house to house. we shot some video earlier that shows vehicles moving through some of that water, trying to
playbook between the governor and fema has learned forward and put a lot of stuff. but even with everything ready, there will never be enough to get everybody when they want to get out. people are going to have to wait because it s going to take time, and it s going to be doing it in the most toughest conditions with power lines down, roads closed. right. so you talk a lot of helicopter work and airboats going in to get people. so people have to stay safe, take care of one another, check on their neighbors and try to take care of one another until the first responders get there. but it s going to be a big search and rescue mission. that s great advice, and you re absolutely right, lieutenant general russel honore. thanks for that expertise. repor reporting from washington, i m jim acosta covering this devastating hurricane, ida. pamela brown takes up cnn s coverage of hurricane ida. that will continue live after a quick break. stay with us.
any of these people? ? well, first of all, being from louisiana, we have a lot of airboats with night vision. we have the capability to rescue the people at night because we have the equipment. secondly, a lot of it is we re getting called out over social media in our app called patriot emergency response team perch. people can go into it and basically put out a 911 request for a rescue. and that is where we have been getting them from. but right now it is basically word of mouth, we re going door to door. well, your group is really amazing. the cajuns for the international viewers are from louisiana. you have worked hurricane katrina, other disasters, todd, how would you compare what you re seeing now to other disasters you have worked? well, this here is kind of a strange disaster because we knew there were fwroung to be areas
so we can turn around some of these interviews. i don t want to make light of this at all, but we saw the footage of you when you were walking through what seemed to be knee deep water and you had your waders on. did you see that alligator before or after you decided to wade into those waters? no, are you kidding me? i saw it way before actually. but you can ask, you and i both know the producer i work with very well he told you to get in the water anyway while he sat in the car? i said if there s an alligator coming up behind me you better tell me asap. in all serious actually when you think alligator, you think airboat. it was one of the only ways for people to get around in here right now if you have a lower profile vehicle. we saw people take airboats off the back of their truck and put it down in the water and head on out. in the everglades city it s not the only community down here. there s also an island further down the peninsula there. and the bridge there was comple
