300,000 North-East children may die of malnutrition this year–UN
Kayode Idowu
The United Nations Children’s Fund has predicted that about 300,000 children in the north-eastern part of Nigeria are likely to die of acute malnutrition in 2021.
In a statement on Friday, UNICEF also said over 800,000 children in the North-East were expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in the course of the year.
The North-East, comprising Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi states has been ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency for years.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, the terrorist group has killed around 70,000 persons and displaced an estimated 2.5 million people, including children.
