Black Hawk helicopters can be used to transport vaccines for the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) to far-flung areas, the Department of National Defense (DND) said on Saturday amid criticisms that the purchase of choppers is ill-timed due to the economic impact of the pandemic.
DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said the Black Hawk can also be tapped for various usage such as airlifting of relief goods and air evacuation of sick or wounded people from the far-flung area.
“For a country constantly beset by calamities and currently battling a pandemic, transport helicopters like the Black Hawks are an absolutely necessary asset in our inventory that will allow the Armed Forces to respond efficiently and effectively to critical situations,” said Andolong.
