California legislators have begun introducing bills for consideration during the 2023 legislative session. Those proposed include AB 1100 Four Day Workweek, SB 703 Flexible Work Schedules, AB 524 Protection for Family Caregivers, and SB 731 Remote Work as an Accommodation.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, California employers will be prohibited from discriminating for off duty cannabis use. The bill, which Governor Newsom signed into law Sept. 18, 2022, adds Section 12954 to the Government Code. Employers have a year to evaluate their workplace policies.
Recently introduced California Assembly Bill No. 2188 proposes to prohibit discrimination against employees who use cannabis off the job. AB 2188 would amend California’s employment antidiscrimination law, the Fair Employment and Housing Act FEHA.
