captions by vitac www.vitac.com we are following the breaking news of a plane crash in the alaska wild erness that has claimed the life of ted stevens. and sean o keefe is confirmed to be among the survivors. casey wian is working the story for us in anchorage with the latest. what are you picking up, casey? reporter: well, wolf, we landed an hour ago in anchorage, alaska, which is a ways away from crash site. but i got off of the phone with a man who is a commercial pilot and he is one of two commercial pilots who initially spotted the crash last night, and alerted authorities that there was a crash, and that there were going to be victims. he told me about the scene of the crash. what he said is that the plane simply ran into the mountain. the plane was carrying nine passengers, and we have since learned that five of those passengers were killed,
but i m curious if you know who the survivors are. no. we weren t able to get passenger names. shepard: do you know male or female? no, we don t. shepard: four survivors, though. that s great to hear. i don t know if that can lead you to any conclusion or if you know we know there were nine people onboard. right. nine people, including the pilot. we do have rescuers on the scene as well as the initial first responders, the good samaritan medical team is still on the scene. so they re assessing the situation and providing additional support if feed the foo that s good to hear. senator stevens family notified us they ve been notified he s died. i wonder if you know if the rest of the people onboard died or if that s a gray area. i don t know. the chain of information is pretty long. by the time it gets to us in
