But the reality is, it requires a lot of hard work.
And one Hull woman who knows that firsthand is mum-of-two Aimee Platten 37, of west Hull, who has amassed more than 38,000 followers.
Aimee has a daughter and a son - Willow, three, and Blake, ten - who regularly feature in her Instagram posts.
The former teaching assistant initially set her Instagram account up to share pictures after her daughter Willow was born to avoid boring people she knew with snaps of her daughter - but she never imagined it would turn into a career.
