Podcasting is the hot new trend among celebrities, with A-listers such as Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Louis Theroux all making a bid for our precious earbud time. And now comes perhaps the most anticipated celebrity “cast” of the year: the first serving of Harry and Meghan’s “Archewell Audio” for Spotify.
It arrives amid a great deal of hype and also considerable curiosity. When the trailer for Archewell “dropped” earlier in the month, it raised many, many questions. Would Harry continue to pronounce 2020 as “Twenny Twenny?” into the future? Is that really the correct way to say “Archewell?” How will this all play out as an episode of The Crown?
âHi guys, Iâm Harry.â
âAnd Iâm Meghan.â
So begins the highly anticipated debut episode of Archewell Audio. Behind the unassuming name lies the fruits of ex-royal couple Meghan and Harryâs multimillion dollar podcast deal with Spotifyâs Gimlet studio.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussexâs brand is all about compassion and kindness, and yet they still get trolled from many an angle. How dare they be so âwokeâ and talk about empathy, good deeds and hope, especially at a time when the world needs it so much?
As people who were actual royalty until earlier this year, the pair presumably have any guest they could possibly want on speed dial, so theyâve picked ones âfrom all walks of lifeâ including James Corden, Deepak Chopra, Matt Haig and Sir Elton John for their Holiday Special. (Yes, holiday, not Christmas. So far, so squarely aimed at the American market.)

The Sussexes recently signed a £30million deal with the streaming service to produce and host their own shows as part of the newly formed Archewell Audio.
Their latest venture will begin with a holiday special that the couple hopes will uplift audiences around the world , it was announced on Tuesday.
Spotify has not revealed what the contract is worth, but the streaming service agreed a £75million ($100m) deal with US comedian Joe Rogan in May.
Earlier this year, Michelle Obama launched The Michelle Obama Podcast for an undisclosed fee with Spotify and had her husband Barack on as one of her first guests.
Contemporary dance hero of the week: Paul Mescal
Just a few years ago, Maynooth actor Paul Mescal (24) was puffing up and down the pitch in a Kildare jersey. Now, with
Normal People having turned him into the world’s most bankable former under-age footballer, he’s applying his fancy footwork to the world of contemporary dance.
“Movement is something I loved doing at drama school and that I’ve missed doing since entering the industry, but this project took me totally out of my comfort zone as I am not a dancer,” he said of the 90-second
Lockdown dance.
You have to admire his daring though there are moments when he seems to be riffing a little too shamelessly on that old Fatboy Slim video,
