With Athletics Ireland celebrating HER Outdoors Week from August 14-20, one Wexford club is hosting an event which encourages women to try a new sport in a “relaxed and fun” environment. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, Menapians Athletic Club hosts ‘Weight for Distance’ at its training grounds behind the rugby club. Y35 V668. The club is inviting females to come and try their hand at a traditional Irish throwing sport where a weight is thrown with one hand and one which was recently described by one of the club’s new members as "the ball and chain". On the night you will be instructed in the technique and have plenty of opportunity to practice the event in a relaxed and fun environment. Menapians have Weight for Distance athletes who have competed up to national level who will be happy to introduce the event to others.
