Through a partnership with Aiken Barnwell Mental Heath and the Aiken County detention center, mental health needs in the jail have been met with several programs to those detained in the jail with a mental illness.
The goal is that a small outlay of cash up front will give clues on how a future $13 million might be spent in opioid abatement throughout Aiken County.
DENMARK â âLegacy of Leadership, Learning, and Loveâ was the theme for the Eta Gamma Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.âs virtual Mother-Daughter Scholarship Brunch held on Saturday, March 15. The program honored mothers and leaders in the chapterâs service communities.
Hazel Rickenbacker, the financial secretary for the Delta Chi Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Orangeburg, served as the mistress of ceremonies. She was presented to the virtual audience by Christine Simpkins-Holman, a member of the local chapter. Other members of the chapter on the program were Barbara Brewer, chaplain, who rendered the invocation; Dianna Davis-Bailey, the historian, greeted the guests; and Sharmiece Patterson, a newly inducted member, delivered the occasion.
The Festival of Trees adds a touch of holiday cheer to the Aiken Visitor Center and Train Museum each year, and it also helps local businesses and organizations share information about their latest causes or general information about what they do.Â
This year s Festival of Trees boasts 18 entries â the most so far in its four-year run, said Hampton Wayt, tourism coordinator.Â
The tree decorated by the Friends of the Aiken County Animal Shelter has an emphasis on adopting pets from the shelter, while the tree decorated by Aiken Senior Life Services brings awareness to the increase in meals the organization has had to deliver to its clients this year during the coronavirus pandemic.Â
