NC St, Tennessee lock up CWS bids; No 1 seed Arkansas out | Taiwan News

2021/06/14 10:07 North Carolina State and Tennessee locked up spots in the College World Series on Sunday, with the Wolfpack knocking out No. 1 national seed Arkansas. Two days after losing its NCAA super regional opener by 19 runs, Jose Torres hit a tiebreaking home run in the top of the ninth inning off SEC pitcher of the year Kevin Kopps and NC State beat the Razorbacks 3-2 in the deciding Game 3. Tennessee completed a two-game sweep of LSU with a 15-6 win. Virginia beat Dallas Baptist 4-0 and Notre Dame defeated Mississippi State 9-1 to force deciding third games Monday. No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 9 Stanford were the first teams to claim spots in the CWS, closing out super regional sweeps Saturday.

Series Preview: Virginia Tech

Hitting The Road The Irish are taking to the road for their final road trip of the regular season and final conference series of the year. The Irish are set to close out the ACC slate with a three-game series in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech. The Irish are making their first trip to Blacksburg since 2016 and hold a 14-9 all-time record against the Hokies. The series history is tied at 3-3 in games in Blacksburg but the Irish swept the three game series against the Hokies in 2016 and have won the last two series against the Hokies all-time. Virginia Tech enters the series with a 27-20 record and are 16-17 in ACC play. This past weekend, the Hokies dropped two of three games on the road against Duke.

Series Preview: North Carolina

NOTRE DAME, Ind. The sixth-ranked Notre Dame baseball team is back in action this weekend as they host another ACC series at Frank Eck Stadium. The Irish (21-8, 18-8 ACC) are set to square off with North Carolina (20-18, 14-13 ACC) for a three-game set starting Friday night. The series opener is set for a 5 p.m. ET start and will be aired on the ACC Network Extra. Home Sweet Home The Irish are back at home for their final home swing of the regular season over the next two weeks. Notre Dame is set to play six of the next seven home games from Frank Eck Stadium to close out the home slate.

Midweek Preview: Central Michigan

The Irish continue their eight-game homestand with a midweek contest against regional foe Central Michigan. 12 of their next 16 games will come from Frank Eck Stadium and the Irish own a 6-3 record at home so far this season.  The Irish and Chippewas will face off for the 36th time in program history. Notre Dame holds a 21-13-1 advantage in the all-time series and the Irish are 16-9-1 in games played at home. Central Michigan sports a 17-9 overall record and are 9-3 in MAC play. The Chippewas have won nine of their last 10 games and are coming off a series win over Bowling Green where they won three of the four games in their first series at home since 2019.
