FORESTVILLE - Nearly a year and a half into the drawdown of the Forestville Millpond, residents frustrations since last summer have not been lessened.
The drawdown started November 2019 as a way to improve water quality, reduce the invasive carp population and encourage native plant diversity, according to a Door County Facilities and Parks Department fact sheet on the county website.
The county opened the gate at the Forestville dam on the Ahnapee River to lower the water level by no more than three inches a day. This would allow the sediment at the bottom composed of solid materials like rocks, minerals and plants to encrust and compact, which would also improve the pond s depth.
