In dry Gujarat, alcohol flowed even in Covid year | Ahmedabad News

Picture for representational purpose only. AHMEDABAD: Even after 60 years of being a dry state, Gujarat still has alcohol flowing free if one goes by the figure of liquor seizures made in the state. According to the figures, Rs 215 crore worth of alcohol was seized from the state between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020. Analysis of the figures suggest that on an average, liquor worth nearly Rs 34 lakh was seized in the state every day in 2019-2020. The seizures include 15.58 crore IMFL bottles, 34.72 litres of countrymade liquor and 41.23 lakh beer bottles. The figures are startling as seizures took place even in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic when there was police deployment everywhere for around two-and-a-half months in order to implement the total lockdown. And, again during night curfews post-Diwali.

Vehicle owners show off their choice number plates at the RTO AHMEDABAD: The fan of 0007 who made history at the Ahmedabad Regional Transport office (RTO) after he pledged to pay Rs 34 lakh for the fancy number ‘0007’, has backed out and retained the number for his second vehicle by paying just Rs 25,000. Not just Ashik Patel, but at least 3% of bidders have a change of heart and do not pay the full amount. Ashik Patel, however, claimed he was not able to pay the amount of Rs 34 lakh online, RTO officials said anyone can pay any amount online and one could even pay in cash at the Ahmedabad RTO.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat-based companies dealing in natural gas have seen their stocks rally on bourses following the government’s commitment to bring natural gas under goods and services tax and its plans to spend Rs 7.5 lakh crore to build oil and gas infrastructure over the next five years. In past one month, the state-run city gas distribution company (CGD) Gujarat Gas Ltd’s (GGL) stock price has jumped by 49% to Rs 534 on March 1 from Rs 359 exactly a month ago on February 1. The company’s stock even made a fresh lifetime high on Monday as well. As a result, the company’s market cap swelled by Rs 12,050 crore to touch Rs 36,763 crore on March 1.

Spurious edible oil worth Rs 45k seized, three nabbed | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: The edible oil you are consuming in your favourite cuisines might be a spurious one and injurious to your health. A corporate house team along with Naranpura police on Saturday seized 16 canisters of duplicate sunflower oil worth Rs 45,000. Three persons have been accused of illegally selling it by putting fake label and sticker on it. According to an FIR filed with the Naranpura police, legal head of Adani Wilmer, Ashish Gupta, 37, along with two other company employees and cops found the duplicate sunflower oil from a shop near Parishram Tower on Mirambika School Road. “We had received information from a consumer that a person was selling duplicate sunflower oil in the canisters of Fortune brand sunflower oil at Akash Flats near Parishram Tower,” said Gupta in his FIR.
