Crown Casino is fined $30 million by Victoria's gambling watchdog for allowing punters to cash bank cheques made out to themselves, exacerbating gambling harm and likely aiding "criminal infiltration by money launderers".
Peter Lawrence, the executive responsible for the Melbourne casino’s room catering to high-rollers, has resigned after giving evidence to last year’s royal commission about corporate governance at the venue.
The man, who says he gambled at the casino almost every second day between 1993 and 2019, alleges Crown knew, or should have known, he had a gambling addiction.
