Besides a few attempts by Zionist supporters to verbally intimidate, there was no escalation. The encampment chanted non-stop until Zionist protestors voluntarily left university grounds soon after.
Students Against War (S.A.W.) and Stop War on Palestine organised a snap rally on Thursday 4 April at the Sydney office of Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in response to the death of an Australian aid worker in Gaza, Lalzawmi ‘Zomi’ Frankcom. Zomi was amongst seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in their convoy by an Israeli military air strike, announced on April 2.
The rally was organised by activist groups Students Against War and UTS Staff for Palestine, and called for USyd and UTS to cut their ties with Israel and arms manufacturers.
An eager audience was treated to the award-winning documentary Palestine Under Siege by filmmakers Jill Hickson and John Reynolds in Gadigal/Sydney, reports Jepke Goudsmit.
