Kimbark Beverage Shoppe, a liquor store frequented by many Hyde Park residents and UChicago students since 1974 has been sold to A&S Beverages Wine and Spirits, a wine and spirit chain based in the South Side. The sale comes after the passing of John Swain Sr., the former store owner and the father of longtime.

The ongoing COVID pandemic has crippled many small businesses and forced several to shut down, but two in Park Manor are defying the odds by remaining open despite not receiving any grant assistance.
For nearly 30 years Ahmad “Eddie” Elkhatib has owned A & S Beverages Wine & Spirits along the 75th Street corridor in the South Side neighborhood. Other longtime businesses there include Brown Sugar Bakery, Lem’s Bar-B-Q and the 50 Yard Line Sports Bar & Grill.
