Steel Expressions 2020: Beyond expectations

Steel Expressions 2020, the ninth edition, was held for the first time at Victoria Park last Saturday, Boxing Night, and according to Rodney Small founder and director of RS Productions – the show’s producer/promoter - the event went beyond expectations.
Faced with the challenges of a new venue and its acoustic nuances, Small disclosed that a great deal of effort was put into the production, in order to ensure that it maintained its high standard. It was really challenging, as you know Victoria Park … when you hear Victoria Park, you hear Carnival and the event (Steel Expressions) has always attracted a lot of Christians, a lot of family, so our mission was really to see how that ambience that would drive people back to the Park, and I would safely say we have done it,” Small commented soon after curtains came down on last Saturday’s showcase.

Many patrons soared high during the ninth edition of Steel Expressions last Saturday night, expressing their enjoyment by singing along to the many performances, shouting their approval from their seats and raving about the overall excellent quality of the production.
The 2020 installment of the show was held on Boxing Day at the Victoria Park under the theme, ‘Lifted’ and was punctuated with performances from the show’s producer, promoter and pannist, Rodney Small and a variety of local talent.

Producer of Steel Expressions 2020, Rodney Small said he is pleased with the staging of this the ninth edition of the Show. The show was held with the theme Lifted and carried sub themes of Reflection; Love and Happiness.
Mr. Small told NBC News that the show was aimed at lifting the spirits of patrons. He said patrons can look forward to another great show at the 10th Edition of Steel Expressions next year.
The 2020 cast was made up of five-year-old Jyasi “Lil JJ” Nash Jr., Caywama and Caydonna Edwards, Havlyn Gill, Brent Williams, Ahjea Jackson, Kyron Westfield; Aretha Shallow; Hance John; Skinny Fabulous and Featured Artiste Pannist Rodney Small.

Rodney Small’s Steel Expressions concert has been described as “extremely impressive” by a local marketing professional.
This is the view of Marketing Assistant at University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus St Vincent and the Grenadines Ronnie Daniel, which he expressed during the show’s media launch at the Murray Heights Hotel on Thursday, December 10
Daniel told the gathering that he has known Small since around 2000, when Small and several other young entertainers became involved in the Methodist church’s youth month program.
“He was very passionate and we were impressed,” Daniel said of Small back then, while noting that Small has brought that passion to Steel Expressions, a show which is into its ninth year.

Rodney Small’s Steel Expressions event should be thought about in the context of St Vincent and the Grenadines’s (SVG) cultural development with specific reference to production.
“Rodney is what I consider to be … what you get when you mix education with passion and creative development,” singer and songwriter Lennox Bowman said last week.
The former chief executive officer (CEO) of the General Employees Cooperative Credit Union (GECCU), a long-time supporter of the nine-year-old Steel Expressions show, shared his views during the media launch of the 2020 version of the event which is this year being held under the theme, “Lifted” and is organized under the “RS Productions” banner.
