Bidhuri demands Rai’s resignation if allegation proven wrong
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Friday challenged Agriculture Minister Gopal Rai on what he alleged was his “false statement” on wheat procurement by the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
Demanding Mr. Rai’s resignation if the Minister’s allegation against the FCI was proven wrong, Mr. Bidhuri offered to step down from his position as LoP asserting that the FCI started procuring wheat at the minimum support price (MSP) on April 6.

The Delhi BJP on Friday accused Agriculture Minister Gopal Rai of making false statements on wheat procurement by the Food Corporation of India, and challenged him to prove the charges or resign. The Delhi minister earlier alleged that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was harassing farmers by not procuring their wheat crop on minimum support price. Speaking to media after visiting Narela mandi in north Delhi, he claimed that no counter had been set up at the mandi and no procurement was happening, as claimed by the FCI. BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri accused Rai of making baseless charges in the matter.

Agriculture Minister Gopal Rai said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) under the Central government has not opened a single counter for wheat procurement in Delhi, but is making false claims of purchasing the crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP) from April 1.
“Despite three letters of plea addressed to the FCI, it has not opened its wheat procurement counters, forcing the farmers to sell their wheat. The Central government determines the MSP and the FCI purchases, but the BJP is falsely accusing the Delhi government of not buying wheat at MSP,” Mr. Rai said.
Responding to claims, Delhi BJP’s Kisan Morcha president Vinod Sehrawat said that it is “sad” that Mr. Rai is playing “dirty politics” on sensitive issue such as purchase of wheat at MSP in Delhi.
