The country’s raw sugar production continued to decline for the fifth consecutive week, dropping by 7.9 percent in the third week of April, according to the Sugar Regulatory Administration.
The country’s raw sugar output may drop by 50,000 metric tons in the coming crop year mainly due to lower fertilizer use amid rising prices, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
The Sugar Regulatory Administration defended its decision to allow the importation of 200,000 metric tons of sugar due to a projected tightness in stock at the end of the milling season.
