The United States welcomes the agreement reached between the Government of Guinea and members of opposition political parties that paves the way for all parties to participate in legislative elections. We applaud Guinea’s political leaders for demonstrating goodwill, flexibility and a shared commitment to holding inclusive and peaceful elections in accordance with international standards. We commend the dialogue facilitated by UN Special Representative of the Secretary General Said Djinnit that achieved this agreement and the support shown by representatives of the Francophone, European Union, and Economic Community of West African States. The United States is committed to supporting the electoral process and the seating of a newly elected National Assembly, an important milestone in consolidating Guinea’s democratic transition.
