The Pakistan Supreme Court has declared trials of civilians in military courts null and void. The ruling came as the court heard petitions challenging the trial of civilians involved in riots triggered by the arrest of Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in a corruption case. The court reserved its verdict after arguments were presented on the domain and scope of military courts to try civilians. The Attorney General of Pakistan argued that trials of civilians in military courts were necessary to fulfill requirements of a criminal case.
