One of the top three candidates for the heated Machakos Senate by-election has withdrawn his bid just two days before polls open on March 18, 2021.
Maendeleo Chap Chap confirmed that its candidate Mutua Katuku would no longer contest the seat left vacant by the late Boniface Kabaka.
The move leaves Wiper s Agnes Kavindu Muthama to face off with United Democratic Alliance s Urbanus Ngengele for the coveted seat.

Widely considered the lower Eastern’s economic and political capital, the county has about 624,000 registered voters, according to IEBC.
The UDA candidate has the backing of the interim party chairman and former area senator Johnson Muthama. The new outfit is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.
Katuku, a former Cabinet minister, is being supported by the party leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, while Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has roped in the new ‘Sacred Alliance’ to beat the drum for Kavindu, the former wife of Mr Muthama.

Yusuf Haji listened to about 7,000 individuals and received tens of memoranda from various interest groups to deliver the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report. Perceived as a quiet schemer and pro-government, Haji, who until his death yesterday was the Garissa Senator, steered the 14-member team that was characterised by tense political intrigues and mistrust during the collection of views and report writing.
The former provincial administrator further led the team in a validation process that culminated in the second document launched in October last year.

There was a near-physical confrontation between Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama after the former made remarks that touched on Muthama’s domestic front.
This happened today at Mitaboni Primary School grounds in Machakos County during the burial of African Inland Church (AIC) bishop Bernard Nguyo, where several leaders from Ukambani attended.
Kalonzo and Agnes Kavindu (Muthama’s wife with whom they are separated and is Wiper’s candidate in the Machakos senatorial by-election) arrived together at the tail end of speeches by political leaders. The duo’s entry into the giant tent coincided with Muthama s speech.
