$3600 in rent from the time he returned from pakistan to connecticut. that was back in february. and that we have pulled together other information, for example, he bought a semiautomatic rifle back in march for about $400. he spent about $100 for those m-88 fireworks he used to put together the contraption that he put in the suv. a couple of five-gallon gas cans. they maybe cost about $30 with gas in them for those. two propane tanks that you use on a barbecue grill, about $150. and the used suv, from craigslist, he paid $1500. and the one way ticket to jfk before he was caught? that cost him about $880. that adds up to a total of right under $7 500. if our viewers are wondering why
they lost him. we got lucky on this. the senator is asking the questions that a lot of americans are asking, why the heck do we take off our shoes and put our liquids in a bag when this character is on an airplane? remember the day when we still didn t know who this was and where he was, we found out that officers went to pennsylvania. what were they doing in pennsylvania? were they possibly reviewing this tape. look at this, this is shahzad here buying fireworks. now, these m-88 s that he would buy in this fireworks place legally in pennsylvania, the m-88 s, 150 strong that were put there to unite, the gasoline and propane. he bought m-88 s and not m-80 s. m-88, you can light one and it won t spread to the other. and m-80 s which you buy illegally if you re in new york, some tell me, they re the ones where you light one and they they would have actually caused the ignition and the propane to explode. the m-88 s have been described in local papers as, you know, being something
buying $98 worth of fireworks. the m-88 fireworks purchased at the store matched those found in shahzad s car and his connecticut home. check this out. the store owner says that the fireworks contained only 50 milligrams of pyrotech nick compound. that s equal to about one-sixth of an adult aspirin. so who gave him the money and who provided the support? investigators are retracing the steps and it has taken them to pakistan, where four members of an al qaeda-linked group are being questioned. nic robertson has gone there to track his movements there. reporter: april 17th, 2009, faisal shahzad becomes a u.s. citizen. he has no known tie toss terrorism. two and a half months later, he returned to his homeland. when he left the united states,
now we can see inside his apartment, people will say look, he didn t have enough money to have a bed and didn t have enough money to have a tv. let s feel sorry for him. it s also clear that night after he parked his pathfinder, he ignited the pathfinder evidently by pulling over by the u.n. building. he lit it up. in some way, he ignited it with m-88 s. he had 152 of them. if he took got m-80 they would have linked into each other. one would have went off and the other and the other and the bomb might actually worked. he bought m-88 s. i don t know a lot about explosives. evidently, they do not light off unless you light each one individually. you couldn t just if you took a bunch of m-80 s, one would go off and the other would go off and maybe ignite the gas cans and eventual the propane. who knows? he had the composure to get out of the pathfinder, put on a hat. this is caught on video and walk down the block. let s talk about the marriage that he had and yesterday, i said
