Define a leader with four characteristics to have a soul, to have a heart, to have brains and to have good nerves. Leaders, by and large, dont get to choose the challenges they face. They only get to choose how they address those challenges. And how youve done so in your time at the imf has been remarkable. We look forward to hearing your opening comments today madam lagarde, on the state of the Global Economy and how we might best address its most pressing challenges. We at the Atlantic Council often speak of how we together as the Atlantic Community alongside our likeminded global friends confront a defining moment in history, perhaps as pivotal as 1919, 1945 or 1989 when the decisions of leaders like yourself, and that of the member countries you represent, have outsized importance. So as i turn the podium to you, let me paraphrase clause schwab in thanking you formakering all the personal sacrifices that Public Service requires at such challenging times and using his words, salute
Money called the pet nanny. I went around, i walked dogs. Why . I make no money, but made me feel like i was doing something. I dont see enough of it. I think the problem is the mindset is that everybody feels like the ground was pulled out from under them. Every single thing we ever thought was going to be no longer exists. And it is a real curve ball, people cant recover from it. People need to hear messages about the fact that they can create meaningful alternatives, maybe it is not what they thought, but Revenue Streams and such. So coming back, i just mentioned Global Coalition on aging, i was having a discussion with some representatives there, and i was surprised at this. They indicated that the Fastest Growing entrepreneurial segment were people in your age group, that we all read about the internet, 20yearolds making a lot of money, or entrepreneurial, but the Fastest Growing entrepreneurial segment is and in that population, much of it is whats called micro business. Very, ve
Obviously the court in d. C. Issued an injunction, which i know that youre complying with. But the problem is the bonds have been set so high. If youre from Central America being held in prison for six, seven, eight months with your children, you dont have 10,000 to get out. Are we taking a look at alternatives to detention for people whose cases, whose credible fear findings have already been made . We certainly are looking at alternatives for detention, as you well may know. We have quite a few families on the att program. Its essentially release but with some increased supervision. And we have enjoyed some success with the program. I will say every decision that our officers make, and they use their best judgment, theyre trained. Theyre seasoned. To try to determine what the appropriate bond is once they say, okay, you should be released. But we need some well, i would like to follow up with you. Were hearing something quite different and you know, well get to the bottom of it off c
Cart any mccraven, an Airman First Class in the United States air force. And lola bolden, a Sergeant First Class in the United States army. Never imagining that in their recruiting duties in Oklahoma City that they would give their lives in defense of their country. And to my colleagues and to congressman lucas, i would ask that we could observe a moment of silence in memory to all the 168 americans, oklahomans friends, that were killed in this despicable act of terror on our domestic shores. And to all of those that carry the scars and injuries to this day if we could observe a brief moment of silence. I thank my colleague and friend, congressman lucas, and thank you, mr. Speaker. I yield back to my colleague. Mr. Lucas mr. Speaker theres no way that the oklahoma delegation can express our thanks to the country for the help over the last 20 years. But with this moment of silence just now we ask that everyone, two minutes after 9 00 central time this sunday morning think about those 16
Monuments this Holiday Weekend. Hhs acting deputy secretary here with more on the mobilization. All right, secretary, the threats to monuments, you have obviously established teams all over the country where ready to act on a moments notice. If there some kind of trouble . Yes, we have been predeployed in several locations around the country with their assets if they need to travel and we also have teams predeployed in the cities and areas where we think are more likely to be problem areas. So that we are able to assist just as we did in washington, d. C. , a month ago when we advanced over 800 of our Law Enforcement officers from a variety of agencies to assist the secret service park police and nypd, washington, d. C. , to restore peace in the city of washington. They will help do that anywhere thats appropriate around the country. The president has advertised, we are going to be buried forward leaning and maintaining the peace and keeping americans in our history safe. Jon it surpri
