Fran Ruben, Retired Trustee, Blazed A Trail In Cedar Hill ISD A Mission To Serve The Community (CEDAR HILL, TEXAS) When Fran Ruben decided to become a candidate for the Cedar Hill Independent School District in 1993, she wasn’t thinking about the progress and history associated with it. “I didn’t see it as anything other than a citizen serving my community,” Ruben said. Ruben was a member of the Community Advisory Board, Community Development Board, Cedar Hill Library Committee, Campus Improvement Committee Economic Development and Best Southwest Scholar Board. So running for the school board seemed like the logical next step; she was elected in 1993 and served until 2002.

Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove Sails to Victory in 30th Senate District Race By Brian W. Carter, Contributing Writer Published March 4, 2021 Sydney Kamlager-Dove (Courtesy Photo) In a Special Election to fill the vacated seat of now Supervisor Holly Mitchell, Sydney Kamlager-Dove Becomes California’s only African American Female Senator. As of press time, State Assembly member Sydney Kamlager-Dove was the projected winner for the 30 th Senate District seat with 68% of the vote. The special election was called by Governor Gavin Newsom to fill the seat vacated by current L.A. County Supervisor Holly Mitchell. Kamlager-Dove stands poised to join State Senator Steve Bradford at the State Capitol. During a period where many in the Black community have been calling for more representation especially, more Black women in government, Kamlager-Dove is filling that void.
