President Joe Biden's Catholic faith "kept him alive" during family tragedies. But for many American Christians, including Catholic leaders, Mr Biden's genuine religiosity is less important than his views on abortion.

Early in “The Souls of Black Folk,” the book that established his reputation and remains a classic to this day, W.E.B. DuBois observed of African-American religion: “Few men ever worshipped Freedom with half such unquestioning faith as did the American Negro. In song and exhortation swelled one refrain Liberty.”
DuBois pointedly noted that he was writing precisely 40 years since the emancipation of 3.5 million Black people then enslaved in the Confederacy. He was not only identifying the liberation theology at the heart of African-American Christianity in general. He was describing a specific and holy ritual that is traced to the eve of Abraham Lincoln’s proclamation: Watch Night.
salvation is not compromised, knowing that my walk with christ is not compromised, when in fact it is strengthened by me walk in my truth. such a powerful moment in the film. it reminds me ever what someone said i am not tragically colored. they are not one of these lgbt tragedies. the big thing i learned, while they went through spiritual violence, they don t lose their faith. it is incredible that it actually strengthened their faith through it all. it actually feels like what i always think of as the great gift of african-american christianity to world religion and to u.s. context was always the ability of black communities, enslaved communities, to see god loved them even when the rest of the world said they weren t worthy. that s one of the theological gifrt gifts, that capacity to do that.
