brown in ferguson or walter scott in south carolina. they very much want to keep this in the debate. you have a focus on it, and the cameras sort of go away. so they very much want to keep this in the news and they re doing it pretty effectively by crashing these events and getting these candidates to have to go on the record and address them and eventually i think the plan is to lay out a plan. not only address them, but also even apologize in some cases. we ve heard that from martin o malley, where he said that all lives matter, and we heard the booing in the crowd. why is that o offensive to these activists? i think right now there is a particular problem of police violence against african-americ african-americans. this existed for a long time. cases like michael brown and walter scott have put it back into the news and have highlighted it for millions of americans. to say all lives matter doesn t really sound like you re trying to affirm the value of all lives. it sounds like y
the promise of america, and they worry about it. or how about if you re a member of the minority community, an african-americ african-american. you wonder the system i think sometimes doesn t just work for me but sometimes i feel like that system works against me. you think about the troubles that many of our african-americans still face today in a world where we have worked to provide equal rights and opportunities. sometimes they re not so sure, and i don t blame them. or how about all of us? we pick up the paper, it s chattanooga, it s ft. hood, it s isis. are we safe? are we going to be safe to go to the mall? are we safe to leave our homes?
time with white, rural voters. also, men and those 65 or older. do you think that is a real problem or a significant problem going forward? i think that s a reality. and you look at america s polarized electorate. where you have republican voters in one place, coming from certain demographic groups and certain demographic voters in another group. and as obama was able to prove in 2012, you can use his coalition of younger americans, african-americ african-americans, latinos, upscale whites to be table to win, even in places like ohio and florida. and of course, the presidential electorate is very big for that to come out. that you end up needing a big turnout to make that happen, which we saw in 2014. democrats didn t end up doing all that well. what i find that s really interesting, richard, is that president obama s coalition is pretty much hillary clinton s coalition when you end up looking at the polls. so her job is to be able to still keep that coalition and
necessarily be able to complete all of the work they were supposed to do. there s one charge or maybe more of which they are hung up and that means this could be in some respects a retrial down the line. sonny, you said the issue of race in many ways has been the elephant in the room during this trial. do you think that s affecting the jury deliberations right now? because it is a prettidy remembers jury. it is. we have 12 jurors this time as opposed to six and zimmerman. i think race is certainly an issue here. no one seems to want to talk about it. there are two african-americ wo the jury, a hispanic man. those twos african-american women, every time the jury comes back, i look at them. they re looking down at the ground, very different from everyone else. the bottom line is i think we can all agree, everyone s been using the code word, thug music, rap crap. there were four white kids in that car listening to heavy
african-americ african-americans. we ve seen african-americans, i m pretty sure it s happening in other communities. what s happening is children behaving badly. they re not being policed at home by their parents. eric, do you want to respond? well, yeah. i mean, if there there have not been reports of white kids and asian kids and latino kids running around and punching people in the head. al sharpton came out because it s predominantly black people or black kids punching predominantly nonblack kids. in the case of is violence violence? yeah, it is. in my view. but the fact of the matter is, if it s race based, you have to call it out, readless of who s doing it to whom. and to say there isn t a particular target here, especially in light of reverend al coming out and talk act it. that s just tunnel vision in my opinion. we ve got to leaf it right there. thank you. and coming up next tonight right
