outrage over the new standards for teaching black history in florida. the new standards include teaching about racialized violence, like the race massacres, including the tulsa massacre and the crook shank massacre that were perpetrated against african americans, but these standards now require educators to characterize these episodes of violence as quote acts of violence perpetrated against and by african americans. also, the standards say that teachers should note that enslaved persons, quote, developed skills that could be applied for their personal benefit. republican presidential candidate chris christie and vice president kamala harris criticized the new standards and florida governor ron desantis. look, governor desantis started this fire with the bill that he signed, and now he doesn t want to take responsibility for whatever is done in the aftermath of it.
