I think that jason is going to tell you who she is. Thank you. [applause] its so good to have you all here. I learned a long time ago not to instruct an audience to do anything but i think at a this point onlyly appropriate if you gave a round of applause to this evening that was my joke for the night. Welcome. Its great to see you here and great to be with jason and diana at this place where so many of these events have occurred overr the years. Ive known you for a while now going back to when you firstgo came to the General Assembly and i was reporting for the kansas city star. Whats amazing particularly after reading your book is i didnt know most of this stuff, what you were going through. It just strikes me that we are all so good at disguising indifficult things, not just you but many of us. We all have difficult things. Im wondering you were in a such a highprofile position for many years. How did you manage it . I didnt. Thats the point of the book. [laughter] thank you, steve,
Isnt democrats are the only people who should care about this. This is a pretty important difference that really involves the effects of both political parties. The average democrat in congress cut the average republican spent about 1 of the congressional career doing workingclass jobs. The average democrat spent about 2 . So this isnt an issue that one party sort of bones. Host i know that you talk about it in the book but again, a country like ethnicity theres a lot to talk about the hispanic population and how its increasing and republicans really need to get on board with that. Those people are probably in the work. A lot of those people like immigrant are in the working class. Could that be an area have you thought about how ethnicity is in the workingclass framework . Guest i take race and ethnicity and the party seriously. But there are sort of background characters in the book the line controlling for them and making sure to account for them and the sort of statistical work tha
We still find that people in those communities are saying thats an old case. We dont need to revive it. Why bring up the past . Lets let it go. Lets let god take care of it. And i answer did not god give us a mind . Did not god give us the strength . Why are we depending on that . That can bring closure, i feel, to all of these negatives that still float around in the air, whether they be in mississippi or whether it be in other parts of this country. It was the same thing that was told to me. Years and years i searched for evidence that would help us get a third trial with medgars assassin. People said youre crazy, youre living in the past. Youve got to move away from it. I cant help you. I wont help you. And this one word, one word that medgar had and i had, and i hope all of us want to make positive changes will have, and thats perseverance. A believing in something, a being determined, having that vision. Being determined of seeing that vision comes into being. And assessing whatev
Before, he needs to put politics aside and rebuild trust. And rebuilding trust not only with the American People, but with the American Peoples representatives here in the United States congress. Bill wow what about that trust . Chris stirewalt, fox news digital politics editor. How are you doing, reverend. Bill. Bill and john boehner to a lesser degree you make the case this today is all about whether or not the president accepts the results of tuesday night. So how is this going to go . Well its like this. This is such a large group as to be, it is so big it is insignificant. Real deals get cut when you have oneonone, one on two, small groups working together to hash out what the overall plan is. This is obviously symbol little. Were talking about 16 people. Nothing real is going to happen here. This is about the president showing some optics. He need to do that, given the fact that earlier in this week he essentially said, this was not a valid election return because of all the peel
