Cities, especially the larger ones, have been placed at the centre of the economic growth strategies. However, the increasing pace of urbanisation in India has not been matched by adequate planning, governance and infrastructure development. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have further exposed the shortcomings of Indian cities in addressing urban densification and inadequate provision of urban basic services including drinking water and sanitation. This pandemic has affected the urban poor more than anyone else. The engines of our economic growth have been derailed due to massive disruption in economic and related activities inflicted by this pandemic. Total Of 1.1 Crore Houses Approved Under PMAY(U) So Far

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs said today that a total of 1.1 crore Houses have been approved under PMAY (U) so far. Construction of 1,68,606 new houses have been approved in the 52nd Meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). 14 States/UTs participated in this meeting. These houses are proposed to be constructed across the verticals of Beneficiary Led Construction, Affordable Housing in Partnership and In-Situ Slum Redevelopment. The states also put in their proposals for revision of projects due to various issues such as, of land, topographical hazards, inter-city migration, change of preferences of verticals etc. Construction is in various stages in more than 70 Lakh houses and more than 41 Lakh houses have been completed.

Centre likely to give final push to urban housing scheme January 22, 2021 × The Centre is likely to give a final push to its ambitious Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) programme in the Budget as the deadline for the scheme is next year. The Mission launched in June 2015 intends to provide housing for all in urban areas by 2022. As per the government data, against the demand of 112.2 lakh houses in Indian cities, the government has sanctioned 109.2 lakh houses of which over 70 lakh houses have been grounded (foundation laid) for construction and work is in various stages. Over 41 lakh houses have been completed till this month.

Puducherry Lieutenant-Governor Kiran Bedi has approved the merger with AB-PMJAY, one of the flagship programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with effect from Wednesday, a press release said.
