Rebecca Zurek discovered her interest and talent for model rocketry through a summer camp, and knew her passion couldn’t end there. The absence of a rocketry team at her previous school, Prince of Peace Catholic, prompted her to take matters into her own hands. The 17-year-old, a recent graduate of Carmel High School and also a member of the U.S. Space Modeling team, founded the Redhawk .

The Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan and FIRST robotics are offering a free virtual event for students, parents and companies from Michigan’s aerospace industry.
The Women of Aerospace event, scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, will feature keynote speakers from NASA and six panels moderated by women from NASA.
FIRST robotics teams participating from West Michigan include students from East Grand Rapids High School, East Grand Rapids Middle School, East Kentwood High School and Crestwood Middle School.
