pain to everyone and making it impossible for poorly educated or kiss advantaged whom he sighted to make a living. the president s address was not an urgent call to reform entitlements, provide oversight on economic abuse or even stimulate the economy. none of that was on display. so it is quite clear that the president is willing to go down in history as a crusader for social justice no matter what happens to the economic fabric of the country. he does not want to cut government spending. he does not want to reform entitlements that are now directly threatening the american treasury. unless there is a radical change in the president s thinking, few problems will be solved over the next four years. we ll simply get more of the same. and that s the memo. now for the top story tonight.

unworthy of the office. shannon: how does the romney campaign combat that? it is advantaged in one way, modern suburbites, people who will decide this election in the end, the swingingest of all the swing voter, they are probably turned off by what the president is doing here, so romney needs to encourage that and have them to reinforce their concerns about what the president is doing as it relates to the free market. but what romney has to do with those voters is getting out there and make his case for the very thing he s been doing all along, which is i can help turn the economy around, which will result in a better standing of living for you, it will be materially better for you. romney is offering an absolute he s trying to strike a bargain with these voters and say you may not crazy about me but if you elect me i can get the economy going. shannon:le numbers are tight but what do you think of the fact that the voters give romney the edge when it comes to better handling the ec
and it s not just newt here at all. we re not picking on them. it s santorum. it was marco rubio. it s all of these people who feel the need to cover their backs. and say, well, you know, he s good but he s not that good. four years ago, democrats, we were still in a battle, senator clinton, senator obama were still going at one another, as you remember. it was not until june. as a matter of fact, i think around this time four years ago we had the great terry mcauliffe on the show talking about how this race was still a competitive one in a lot of ways. two, rick santorum and newt gingrich will be afterthoughts in the next few days. voters aren t worried about that. conservative or not, you re not going to be swayed by what the two of them do. this race is now going to get joined. it s going to get more interesting. and i think largely it will depend on what we talked about on meet the press a few weeks ago. whichever candidate is able to get to first talking about the future, how
just compare what america s tax rate is to the rest of the world. america gets that. we re in a global economy. we have the second highest corporate tax rate of any country on the planet. is that going to encourage or discourage investment? that s something that liberals, conservatives, independents, everybody gets. but it s always framed as right versus left instead of america versus the world. whomever does that best first i think will be advantaged, be it romney or the president, heading into the fall. i think so. good interview in the new york times by the way. oh, thank you. that was fun. it was good. i think this vote on the buffett rule will be more significant than you think, because the republicans will get rid of it. and then the administration plans to take that through the election, that whole concept. and the fact that they made it worse. because they got in the way of everything he was trying to do. and he still was able to do what he did. you know what? you
