The Army is changing its professional education requirements for noncommissioned officer ranks up through master sergeant, and it also will stop issuing temporary promotions for noncommissioned officers.
The Army will suspend the temporary promotions starting in June in one of the most significant changes to its promotion system in recent years, it said in an announcement. The Army will also realign required noncommissioned officer schools, moving each requirement up a rank.
Of the 145 soldiers who attended the Army Recruiter Course, 56 NCOs were automatically promoted from sergeant to staff sergeant, according to the service.

The extension into 2024 will make the third year that the COVID-19 pandemic-era policy has been in effect, as Army planners originally were set to scale back temporary promotions in January.
