NEW YORK (1010 WINS) New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams joined Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday to announce a new pilot program aimed to curb gun violence in the city.
According to Williams, the Advance Peace Model will help prevent gun violence by establishing a mentorship connection between violence interrupters and young New Yorkers who are at-risk of engaging in gun violence. As most crime remains low, we can t ignore the fact that there are some crimes that are going up, and shootings is one of them, Williams said. And we can t ignore that.
