AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has been made aware of unlicensed and unregulated marijuana dispensaries operating under the Tribe’s jurisdiction, said a press release from the Tribe.
Pursuant to Tribal Council Resolution 2021-71, these operations have been issued Cease and Desist Orders until an Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance has been enacted and tribal licenses have been issued, the Tribe said.
In accordance with the tribal referendum approved by membership on Dec. 14, 2019, the Tribe is currently consulting with tribal members on the development of an Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance. The first of three consultation sessions on the regulation’s development was conducted on April 22.

Consultation meetings will be held with tribal members on April 29, and May 6 at 5 p.m. A link to participate in the virtual meetings is available on the Tribal Members Portal located on the Tribe’s website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.

The public meetings for members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe will allow tribal members to review and give feedback on the draft ordinance to legalize adult, recreational use of marijuana.
After the consultation meetings, a final Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance will be presented for adoption. It will regulate all use licensing of adult, recreational-use marijuana, including sales, on tribal territory. No sales, cultivation, processing, or any other commercial activities involving adult-use marijuana are legal under the jurisdiction of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe until the ordinance is adopted and business licenses are issued.
