thank you. reporter: that s paul starks with the montgomery county police department. he said a man came into the lobby. he says it appears the man may have some explosive devices. we are listening in just a second ago to one of the lead police officers on the scene here in silver spring. right now, according to that officer it s not known whether there are individuals, meaning employees, still in the building and if this is a hostage situation. they have not been able to confirm that. what we do know according to that brief interview with the police officer is that the individual is an asian male. his issue is with the discovery corporation then a at least one shot was fire and he has some type of device, perhaps explosives strapped to his body. let s go to derek bartlett a former s.w.a.t. team member, a former sniper. are you there?
are televisions we know inside that building. it s a television operation. want to be very careful about what we re saying, but what have you done in terms of getting your staff prepared and on location? we have a unified operation led by the montgomery county police department here in silver spring. what i can tell you about the incident is that at about 8:00 this afternoon, an adult asian male entered the discovery communications building near the intersection of colesville road and georgia avenue. it s about a mile off the d.c. line in montgomery county. we are confirming that the person is armed and does have a package of some sort. we are working with the montgomery county fire and explosive investigators to determine the type and quantity of those packages, and the montgomery county police are currently speaking with the person in the building. okay.
